ReportService Deployment

I need to create a installation for a group of report on our customer
servers. Based on googling it seems the only way to do this is via script
or direct calls using SOAP and VS.2005 has not direct support for creating
setup programs.
Is this correct or is there a better way?

JohnThere is no direct support for creating an MSI to do deployments, but it
would be fairly easy to write one to push the reports yourself.

You can create a setup project and a custom installer that connects to the
report server and, using the web service calls, adds the reports.
I think you can also use RSS to perform installations.

ReportServer service won't start, and gettign website error

Hi.
I';ve had an installation of reporting services running fine for months
now. This morning, I started getting the following error when trying to
access the report manager:
"Unable to communicate with report server. Please verify that the
report server is operational"
Also, the ReportServer service won't start. I get an error back saying
that "the service did not return an error", which is nice and helpful.
Any ideas what would cause this?Go to IIS make sure no one deleted the folder called ReportServer

ReportServer 2005 print dialog crashes windows...

I'm a developer at a medium-sized installation using ReportServer 2005. There's a problem that occurs for some users and not others. After the ReportServer 2005 report has been generated, the user clicks the Print icon. The print dialog comes up; when they click the OK button on the Print dialog, the screen goes black and their machine reboots.

We've then gone to install the latest Microsoft updates on their machine, to no avail.

After the reboot, they can print from, e.g., Microsoft Word or other applications, but they crash the OS when they print from the ReportServer 2005 report.

I know the first time you print from ReportServer, it installs some software on your machine. I don't know if the problem is related to this.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Probably you've installed Microsoft Patch KB925902.

Remove it from your system and retry...

I've had the same problem printing with Reporting Service 2000.

Thanks for the hint about KB925902. However, this doesn't seem to apply to Report Server 2005. All our users have this patch, but some workstations abort on the Report print and some don't. But it was a good suggestion.

Are you printing to HP printers that have a PCL6 driver installed?

We have noted the same issue, based on testing the PCL5 driver may work better, as a temporary fix.

This was a great idea. Most of the printers here are HP. There's one Xerox printer. Report Server always prints correctly to the Xerox, but fails with the HP printers for some users and not others. Still doesn't explain why some users work and some don't, but it's a start and a good workaround.

We never actually removed KB925902 from any machines. ALL of our machines have this patch. Report Server printing crashes only on some client machines and not on others.

There also seems to be a correlation as to which printer driver is used. HP printer drivers seem to crash; Xerox printer drivers seem to be OK.

This problem seems to be client-side since some machines never crash and some always crash. I've opened a problem ticket with Microsoft on this.

I have a Case number also SRX070416602399.

It seems that the cause was applying Windows Update patch KB925902 and if the client has a HP PCL6 printer driver configured. We were successful in duplicating this error on a VM running XP, applied the XP hotfix and it corrected the stop error from happening.

The problem with ReportServer crashing the client box while printing did indeed appear to be associated with the PCL6 printer drivers. When they were uninstalled from the client box and replaced with the PCL5 drivers, all seems OK. Something with PCL6 and ReportServer 2005.

Reports won't attach in subscription email after sp2 installation

Hello,
I installed SP2 on one of the 2 reporting servers we have in our
environment. Before the SP installation, Subscriptions were able to send the
attached reports. Now the job reports an error. I set up the same
subscription and reports to the server not running SP2 (with identical
settings) and the report worked fine.
If I choose to send only a link, then it works. However, any time I try to
add an attachement, I get errors. Any Ideas? There are no specific errors
in the reportserver logs...
Please help!Do you have some Date fields in report ?
Or do you have changed the Default language for report ?

Reports Services installation problem.

In my laptop, I got W2003 server Std, Sharepoint portal, SQL 2000 and SQL 2005.
After I have trouble to run the Http://server/Reports. I applied SP1, then I
under install the SQL2005, but failed to remove the Reporting Services.
Then I re-install the SQL 2005 with a new instance name, then applied SP1.
when I start the configuration using Reporting Services Configuration
manager, I received an error.
"An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 80040219."
Is there any way that I can re-install SQL 2005 with Reporting Services

ReportManager and SSL

I have a Reporting Services installation where I first implemented Forms
Authentication. I am now implementing SSL and have run into a problem. I
can access the report server through https://<servername>/reportserver,
howerver I cannot access the report manager using
https://<servername>/reports. I keep getting "The underlying connection was
closed: Could not establish trust relationship with remote server." I have
verified that the <URLRoot> key in the RSReportServer.config file and the
<ReportServerURL> key in the RSWebApplication.config file are in the format
https://<servername>/reportserver. My certificate has also been issued to
<servername>. Does anyone have any additional suggestions on fixing my
report manager problem?
Thank you in advance.Our experience has been that you can't change from non-SSL to SSL in
the same Reporting Services installation and have things work. The
procedure we have come up with is:
On the report server
1) uninstall Reporting Services using the uninstall from the RS
installation itself, not Add/Remove Programs.
2) delete the file with name starting with 1aedd7b5699f3d... at
<root>:\Documents and Settings\<machinename>\ASPNET\Application
Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\<Some SID>
3) In Administrative Tools | Component Services | Component Services |
Computers | My Computer | COM+ Applications | , right-click on each of
IIS-{Default Web Site//Root/ReportServer}
IIS-{Default Web Site//Root/Reports}
and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab and uncheck "Disable
deletion". Delete each item.
4) Delete the Reporting Services databases (and the AdventureWorks
database if you installed it) from SQL Server.
5) Reboot.
6) Make sure your web server certificate is valid and was issued for
EXACTLY the correct machine name, case sensitive. If you are using a
cert from your own Enterprise CA and your CA does not chain up to a
root CA (doesn't have its own valid certificate from a real root CA),
use SelfSSL available at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/iis/downloads/default.mspx
to generate a cert that will work. You should probably use a Fully
Qualified Domain Name rather than a NetBIOS name for the certificate.
7) If the cert is good, reinstall Reporting Services and make sure that
you have checked the SSL box during the installation procedure. If the
installation throws _any_ error during the options-picking phase, exit
the installation, fix the problem, reboot, and start the installation
over again.
If anybody knows a better way to switch from non-SSL to SSL on a report
server please let me know. Some of this procedure may be superstition
but it works. Takes about 15 minutes once you've done it 20 or 30
times.

Where do I find the Reporting-Server URL?
I installed SQL 2005 as a standard-instance. The only changes during
installation where: Database-File folder, Analysis-Services Database folder.
I didn't touched any settings of the reporting part.

You also can check the URL from the IIS where the reporting server is

I cannot install MSRS , I get this error , yellow !!!
"IIS is either not insalled or not configured for a server component
installation"
I have run aspnet_regiis, but still not use.
I have IIS running perfect with other apps, WSS, etc., on W2003Svr
Default web site http://localhost runs FP2002 extns
http://localhost/WSS runs WSS , works well
What else do i have to do to config IIS ?See:

Reporting Services Won't Install

I get an error at the very end of Reporting Services installation,
indicating that it cannot start the service. It then rolls the whole
installation back. I started the installation while logged in as the system
Administrator:

Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services Developer Edition --
Error 1920. Service 'ReportServer' (ReportServer) failed to start. Verify
that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone know how to get around
this?
