ReportViewer Height

Hello,

I try to embed my Reports of Reporting Services to ASP .NET Application. I use ReportViewer component of Visual Studio 2005.
When I try to set Height property to 100% there is no report content shown. I tried to set SizeToReportContent property but there wasn't success.
At the same time when I set Height to any particular value e.g. 400px, everything is OK. But of cousre I can't know particular height for every reports.
Did you have any such problems? Can you help me?

Thank you,Xhtml does not treat percentage height the same way as traditional html. Take a look at www.gotreportviewer.com, FAQ #14.|||I also cannot get SizeToReportContent = True to work on my web form report viewer controls. Is this a bug or are we overlooking something?|||SizeToReportContent has no effect when AsyncRendering = true. If you set AsyncRendering = false, which renders the report contents inline (versus being in an iframe), then SizeToReportContent will work.|||I wrote some javascript to size the report after it was loaded, using the AsyncRendering = true.|||

When I set AsyncRendering=true, I get an error message when the user tries to navigate to the second page of my report: " Page navigation is out of range."

When I set AsyncRendering=false, it works correctly.

I am using a remote report.

This is the script that I am using. If you resize a window, you then have to refresh the page to resize the viewer, but there is probably a workaround for that, too.

ReportViewer graphics and charts do not display in aspx page

Hi,
I'm trying to display a basic report in an aspx page using the ReportViewer
component. The report displays but a graphic and simple chart are not
displayed. It seems like it has had good try because link regions in the
graph do actually work, but no visual chart.
Any ideas!Update on below
As I said it seems to be giving the display a good go, and I have managed to
intermitently display the chart graphic (I think by viewing the report in
report manager first), but refresh the page and it disapears again. Follow a
link from the report and then use the back button and it displays again. IE
pants or what!
Only hint is that when the chart is not display the properties say Type: Not
Available, when it is displayed it says Type: PNG Image. I have seen the
.gif displayed once, but don't seem to be able to do it again - same
properties - Type: Not Available.
Seems to be some info about on this type of issue, that is - controls,
security and encoding but nothing definitive.
Any assistance greatly appreciated
Thanks

ReportViewer component and RS 2000

Hello,
could anybody please confirm, that the ReportViewer component (VS 2005,
ASP.NET 2.0) on a WebForm and a RS 2000 on the server side ARE NOT ABLE
TO COOPERATE?
From my IIS logs I see POSTs to "../ReportExcution2005.asmx", which is
obviously not present on a RS 2000 system.
RegardsQ: Can the ReportViewer view reports hosted on a SQL Server 2000 Report
Server?
A: No. In remote mode the ReportViewer control can only view reports hosted
on a SQL Server 2005 Report Server. Note that this has nothing to do with
where the data for the report can come from. Data for the report can come
from any source, including SQL Server 2000, Oracle, DB2 and non-database
datasources.

ReportViewer component - Parameters

Hi,
Can someone show me how to set reportviewer parameters. I am using
visual studio with the reportviewer component provided with reporting

ReportViewer Component

Hi all,

I'm creating a custom interface for reporting services but I am having a few problems. This is my environment:

Using the ReportViewer component in remote mode to show my reports of the report server. There are 2 user levels of which any user can be apart of, Admin & user. In every report, there is a parameter called MERCHANTID, when the user who logs in (via custom login interface) is of group admin, then the merchantid parameter gets prompted before the report is run, if the group of the user is "user" then the merchantid parameter is hidden, and is passed programatically to the report. The report path also

My Questions:

1. When my reportviewer component loads up the report and prompts for a parameter, when you select a parameter value or type it in, it just posts back with no results, just the parameter prompt again with no data... How can this be corrected?

2. How do I pass report parameters programatically... so that when my user id of group "user" then "merchantid" gets passed automatically, but if there is any more parameters, then that gets prompted...

Thanks for your help.

For issue #1: You are probably setting the report path or server url after the LoadViewState event, most likely during load. When you set this value, the viewer sees it as defining a new report. So it ignores input from the client, thinking it applies to the old report. You should be setting this information during Init or only if it is the GET request (!Page.IsPostback), depending on your architecture.

For issue #2: You can programmatically set the parameter value using ReportViewer.ServerReport.SetParameters(). Each ReportParameter object you pass in has a Visible property on it. If you set this to false when setting the report parameter, the client will not see a prompt for that parameter.

|||

Hey man,

Thanks alot for the response, I tried moving my code to the init code, and that worked great.... could you help me with the 2nd part though? This is what I need to do:

If Userlevel = 1 then the report parameter called "MERCHANTID" (If the report has it)needs to be visible for prompting. Else, "MERCHANTID" is hidden and the value session.item("MerchantID") is passed as the value.

This is the code I'm currently using, but not working.

Dim Param As ReportParameter = New ReportParameter
If Not UserLevel = 1 Then
If Param.Name = "MERCHANTID" Then
Param.PromptUser = False
Param.Equals(Session.Item("MerchantID"))
End If
Else
Param.PromptUser = True
Param.DefaultValues = Session.Item("MerchantID")
End If
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(Param)

And this is the error I'm getting... Line 54 is the last line in the example I'm giving.

System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'ReportServer2005.ReportParameter' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter]'. at Report.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) in \\Nccptws001\wwwroot\NetReports\Report.aspx.vb:line 54

Thanks

|||

The compiler is complaining about the last line. SetParameters takes an array of ReportParameter objects, not a single one.

But there are many other problems with your code. Param.Name is always empty string until you set it, so it will never equal "MerchantId". ReportParameter doesn't have a PromptUser or DefaultValues property. The property to set for visibility is Visible, not PromptUser. The property to set the value is Values not DefaultValues. See this help page for more information about ReportParameter: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.reporting.webforms.reportparameter_properties(VS.80).aspx

Sorry for besing such a wuss, but could you help me with the code to achieve this? How could I set the merchantid field and actually first check if the merchantid parameter does exist on this report?

Thanks Brian.

Hi Brian,

I'm trying the following code, but no luck yet:

ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ProcessingMode.Remote
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = New Uri(Http://REPORTSERVER/Reportserver)
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = ReportPath

'SET THE REPORT PARAMETERS
Dim instance As New Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter
If Not UserLevel = 1 Then
instance.Name = "MERCHANTID"
instance.Values.Add(Session.Item("merchantID"))
instance.Visible = False
Else
instance.Name = "MERCHANTID"
instance.Values.Add(Session.Item("merchantID"))
instance.Visible = True
End If
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(instance)

And I'm getting the error:

System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter]'. at Report.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) in \\Nccptws001\wwwroot\NetReports\Report.aspx.vb:line 58

It's still moaning at the last line.

and I still don't want to pass the "MerchantID" parameter if the report doesn't have report parameters.... Any ideas?

Thanks alot for the help.

Rudi Groenewald

If you set this to false when setting the report parameter, the client will not see a prompt for that parameter.

|||

If Not UserLevel = 1 Then
If Param.Name = "MERCHANTID" Then
Param.PromptUser = False
Param.Equals(Session.Item("MerchantID"))
End If
Else
Param.PromptUser = True
Param.DefaultValues = Session.Item("MerchantID")
End If
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(Param)

And this is the error I'm getting... Line 54 is the last line in the example I'm giving.

System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'ReportServer2005.ReportParameter' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter]'. at Report.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) in \\Nccptws001\wwwroot\NetReports\Report.aspx.vb:line 54

Thanks

|||

ReportViewer ASP Component RefreshReport didn''t appear.

Hi every body !
I try to insert the reportViewer in my asp page, all is good, but if I want to change (by choosing another report), and i cannot call the method RefreshReport() as I saw in the msdn documentation.
I didn't understand why, I download the ReportViewer from msdn download : the version is 2.0.50727.42 from 22/01/2006...
I implement in my asp designer tools the following dll : Microsoft.SqlServer.UpgradeAdvisor.ReportViewer.dll 9.0.1399.1 from 14/10/2005

Did I forget any code line ? or did I download a bad version ?

Code Snipp

ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath += "CounterReport";

ReportViewer1.Refre.... //Visual studio didn't propose the method !!

This method is available only with the WinForm version of the ReportViewer. With the ASP.NET version you don't need to refresh the report.

Reportviewer - more security help needed

Hi - I have the reportviewer component working fine in our intranet
enviroment, but am looking to move it over to an internet enviroment
in a few weeks, and have a few questions about this.
At the moment I embed the reportviewer control in the .aspx pages
(which have forms authentication security), and set the properties as
follows:
ReportPath="/ReportCreationTest/Comparison&rs:Command=Render"
ServerUrl="http://myserver/Reportserver/"
1) Is it possible to use the "normal" version of reporting services in
an internet enviroment, or am I going to have to upgrade to enterprise
edition and write a custom security extension?
2) How do I stop someone connecting straight to
"www.myserver.com/Reportserver/" and accessing the reports directly?
The fact that I have the reportviewer control embedded in the .aspx
pages means that I have to allow anonymous access to the reports from
IIS (doesn't it?). So how can I also stop people accessing the reports
directly? It would seem to me that this is why I need the custom
seecurity extension.
In an ideal scenario, I need to prevent people from simply running the
reports, but allow users who have access to the .aspx pages to run the
reports through reportviewer.
Thanks for any help :)
JamesTeo Lachev's answer to my question "RS from VBScript/ASP web-app", 16.nov

His book it is great, by the way! Other books I have read waste too much
time on designing the reports.

> James|||Leif,
Thanks for the kudos. I'd appreciate if you could let me know what could be
improved in my book if I ever decide to write a new edition. I welcome
feedback from everybody. You can use my blog to provide feedback
http://prologika.com/blog/archive/2004/11/21/185.aspx
To address James' question:
1) Depends on your security requirements and whether you need interactive
features.
If you need report interactivity (drilldown, document maps, report toolbar)
you have to use URL addressability which means that your internet user will
have direct access to the Report Server.
If you don't care about the identity of the user (no need for the Report
Server to tell the users apart) you can use Anonymous and the Standard
edition of RS. Apart of not being able to discriminate the users, the
disadvantage of this approach is that you have to bring the RS offline to
manage the report catalog since you don't want to grant admin rights to the
Anonymous account.
If you need to differentiate the users, you have to use Forms
Authentication. This will require the Enterprise edition.
Finally, if you don't care about report interactive features, you can
generate the reports on the server-side of your application using SOAP.
As a side note, it looks like the new RS 2005 controls will support report
interactivity with SOAP. For example, the expand event will raised in the
control which can in turn call down to the RS server.
2) By using Forms Authentication (custom security extension) or generating
the reports on the server side of the application. In the later case, your
RS box could be on your private LAN (not accessible from Internet).
Hope this helps.

Reportviewer

Hi all,
I am using the ReportViewer component to display reports.
Is there a way to make its height and width to just integrate with the
actual aspx page ?I set the Height to 85% and the width to 100%. That works good enough for
me, leaving the right amount of room for the header and footer ASP.NET page
elements.

ReportServer component is not showing during installaion

when i try to install Sql Server 2000 reporting services setup on XP then it shows me client components only.Report Server and report manager component is not showing.Due to this i am unable to run the report project using report server.It gives a messege "No Reprot Server was found at http://localhost/ReprotServer".How can i installed report server.

Can you check if IIS is installed? The below link might give you some more info.

ReportServer as a separate component

Can the ReportServer web services application be installed without installing SQL Server?

Let me explain a little further what I'm trying to do and if I need to take a different path, I'm open to suggestions.

I am going to be using XML files for data input and RDL files to describe the reports themselves. That being said, I am not in need of a database of any kind (and don't want to be required to use one), but I want to take advantage of Microsoft's rendering capabilities. I have looked into the ReportViewer control, but that control doesn't support all of the rendering extensions that ReportServer does (mostly HTML). I know that ReportServer stores its metadata in a database on the local SQL Server, but I didn't know if there was maybe a standalone installation that I could get my hands on that exposed the SOAP API, but didn't require an SQL Server (or any other database for that matter) for it to exist.

Thanks,
Ken

In order to run the Report Server, you do need a SQL Server database engine to be deployed somewhere on your network - not strictly on the local computer.

To get all the rendering capabilities of the report server, you will need to deploy a report server.

If you don't want to use a report server at all, then the ReportViewer control that ships with Visual Studio 2005 is your best bet.

If you don't want to deploy a report server for every instance of your application, you might choose to use a remote report server. In SQL Server 2005, reporting services provides a method for loading a report on the server without saving it in the report server namespace. To do this you use the LoadReportDefinition SOAP API. You'll also need to add any users of your applications to the System User role on the report server, at the system scope (Site Settings in Report Manager, then edit site wide security settings). Your application would then use the LoadReportDefinition method and privision any information needed through the report server execution SOAP endpoint.

Otherwise, you're stuck iinstalling a report server and then choosing either to have a local sql server relational database or a remote one.

Reports rows written but they aren't

I have a 3 data flows with an oledb source, a script component and a sql server destination that reports success and that it wrote the rows to the table in question. However, the rows are not written to the SQL Server 2005 table that is the destination. I have many other data flows in the same package that work exactly the same way that insert the rows they should insert in the destination table.

An example of the message I get indicating success is as follows:

[DTS.Pipeline] Information: "component "SQL Server Destination" (75)" wrote 289 rows.

Has anyone else seen this behavior or have an idea what might be wrong? Why would the data flow report success when the rows were not, in fact, inserted in the destination table?

I deleted the 3 data flows that were exhibiting the problem behaviour and re-created them from scratch. The problem went away after I did this. Don't know what the problem was but the three I deleted had worked previously.|||

Do you have an old copy of the package? It'd be interesting to compare and see what the differences were.

Reporting SVCS and OLAP

Hello
I have question about OLAP and reporting services, is there any way, or any
add in component for Reporting SVCS, for dynamic olap table. First when i
read feature of Reporting services i read something about integration with
OWC so i was thougt that i can add OWC PivotTable like component on my
Report, but this is not or so....
Is also there any SDK how to buil own component for Reporting Services

---Hi,
MS Reporting Services is for SQL Reporting and MS Analysis Services is
for MDX Reporting. With the addin of Panorama for MS Reporting
Services it is possible to have a MDX Report in MS Reporting Services
with parameters to choice from a slicer. With a simple click you can
go from static reporting in MS Reporting Services to the webclient of
Panorama for more analysis.
With QuickQuery And ReportBuilder you can make your own SQL Reports in
MS Reporting Services and in future also based on MDX Reports.
You can also use ReportPortal to have all in one concept.
On our website www.gmsbv.nl you will find more info, demos and trials.

1. OWC:
You might want to checkout MSDN at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/RSCREATE/htm/rcr_creating_dc_v1_43vn.asp
The dynamic pivot table functionality in Reporting Services is done via
Office Web Components (Office XP). Matrix reports (which you can build from
any type of data source) will be rendered as interactive pivot tables in
HTML with OWC.
2. Reporting from Analysis Services:
This question has come up several times on the newsgroup. You might want to
download and check out some samples from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f9b6e945-1f4c-4b7c-9c83-c6801f0576ff&DisplayLang=en
In addition, you may also want to subscribe to this discussion list:
http://groups.msn.com/OLAPServicesDevelopersForum. It should contain a
document in the discussion group under General about approaches how to
directly use Analysis Services 2000 as a datasource for Reporting Services
2000.
