When I open reports from the ReportManager, the parameter list and the
reporting toolbar seem to be missing the normal style, and I get an "unable

I can successfully execute reports from Visual Studio 'Run' or by browsing

Microsoft Developer Support has been investigating for two weeks. I'll post
when I know more.

workstation (XP).
I reviewed what I had changed in the past week, and traced it to an
installation of Norton Privacy Service. I de-installed it, and it worked
properly.
It appeared to be an issue with how the winsock is controlled.
You could try a netsh winsock reset, reboot, and try it.

ReportServer windows service starting and stopping

I'm having a problem with my subscriptions running because it looks like the
ReportServer windows service is stopping and starting. I get a message a few
times a day in the application log stating that the service is starting so
I'm assuming it is shutting down for some reason. Is there a way to stop
this? You need to look in the reportserverservice_<timestamp>.log file to try and
see why the service is restarting. It should not be doing that.

looks like it does 2 cleanup cycles and it stops. It looks like it will
start when I go to the report manager and stops after doing the cleanup. The
problem is that when a report is scheduled to run, the service doesn't
startup. so they don't run. Each log file ends with lines like:

ReportServer Website

Ok, I have this up and running thanks to the help of lots of users in this forum (Thank You again)

I deployed some reports, and everything looks fine, however to add another twist to this, I would like the website to look prettier, by adding something like a welcome page, and some folders and such.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do that ? DO you have any material or a website, where I can get some info ?

Thanks

Which site? The Report Manager? It supports limited costomization through CSS styles (see C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportManager\Styles)

ReportServer Web Service Problem

Hi,
We're getting some really odd behavior from ReportServer calls (e.g.
CreateReport, CreateDataSource). They all complete successfully, but
SOMETIMES create no objects! (at least they are not visible in the Report
Manager and Report Server). It looks like something must "committed" in order
to make changes permanent, I don't know. The behavior is really strange,
because it happens only from time to time, maybe every 5th run in a row (just
by running the same code multiple times and deleting objects between runs).
This is on SQL Express 2005 (haven't tried on other editions, because we
need the free one).
The sequence is as follows:
ReportServer.CreateFolder("test", "/", null);
ReportServer.CreateDataSource("testds", "/test", true, dsdef, null);
ReportServer.CreateReport("testrep", "/test", true, binaryRdl, null);
Report server calls are made through the stub generated from WSDL file taken
from the same server.
Any ideas why this could happen? Maybe servers transactions must be
committed somehow? Or do we need to close report server connection, or call
Logoff method?
Thanks,
MikeMore info on this issue. When I hit refresh in IE in the Report Manager, the
newly created item is not listed, but when I hit F5 multiple times, it
sometimes dumps the following: The item '/test' cannot be found.
(rsItemNotFound). "/test" - is the object that is "half-created" through
CreateFolder call. Looks like a bug in SRS, right?|||Looks like SRS maintains a sort of internal cache for deleted objects and all
management functions (Create*) get stuck on this cache. The workaround for
the issue I explained above is to wait "a little bit" (like 30-50 seconds),
until deleted objects finally "disappear". Microsoft should address this
issue in their future releases.

ReportServer virtual directory doubt...

Can a reportserver/reportmanager virtual directory be configured to run inside another virtual directory.

say...http://mymachine/web/reports

Thanks

Samuel

That should not be an issue. I have done this in the past ... Is there a specific reason why you want to do this?|||

i have report server running under my website......do i have to create another virtual directory and point it to what the main reportserver directory is pointing too.

this we need to do as we are publishing a host of application under /web/ virtual directory in ISA. and from my applications the call goes to

from internet http://domainname/web/reportserver

from LAN http://website/reportserver

reportserver2005,IIS6.0,win2003 server.

t

|||

Thats easy,

All you have to do is go to teh actual folder's properties under websharing.

you should see in the top list box, if you have multiple websites on the server. you should all of them listed in a dropdown list box. just select the preferred one.

sql

Reportserver virtual directory

On my web hosting server the inetpub/wwwroot folder is located on D: drive, and the web hosting company configured it that way.

When i have installed the sql server 2005 it created the virtual directory under c:\inetpub\wwwroot which is not a default website location on that server.

could you please tell me how to switch the virtual directory path from c:\inetpub\wwwroot

to

d:\inetpub\wwwroot

Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I'm not quite sure how you mean. When RS installs it doesn't place any files in c:\inetpub\wwwroot. The standard location will be

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer

Note that the drive letter and the number after the MSSQL. part may vary depending on the choices made during setup and the SQL Server components selected.

The using the configuration tool, it creates 2 virtual directories beneath the default website i.e. the one on port 80 called "reportserver" and "reports" and these are just pointers to the physical directories located int he above install path.

Please can you clarify the issue you seem to be having?

ReportServer URL Access : French language problem for parameters (dates) after installing SQL 20

Hello,

We are using ReportServer URL Access. The parameters aren't pass into the URL, they have a default value and it's possible to change them by the "parameter toolbar". We are using datetime parameters with the very usefull calendar...

We are using a French version of : Windows (XP or W2K3), SQL2005+SP1 and VS2005 + SP1. It works fine, the calendar (for datetime parameter) is in French.

After installing the French SP2, the calendar is in English (w2k3 + VS2005 SP1). On a new installation (XP), with SQLExpress SP2 Advanced + Toolkit (in French), we have the same problem.

With this URL (solution 1), the calendar is in English (it was in French before the SP2):

http://localhost/Reportserver$SQLExpress?%2fProjet+de+rapport1%2fReport1&rs:Command=Render

But with this URL (solution 2), the calendar is in French :

http://localhost/ReportServer$SQLExpress/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fProjet+de+rapport1%2fReport1&rs%3aCommand=Render

In the documentation, we have to use solution 1 (but we have a problem). Is the solution 2 a possible "alternative" ?

Thanks for your help,

Frederic

I'm having the same problem using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, and I'm using the same workaround (my local language is spanish, but the ReportServer doesn't pay much attention to neither the report language nor the browser language).

I hope someone answers your question. According to the documentation it shouldn′t be necessary.

reportserver url - get Directory Listing Denied

I have two servers, basically identical on which reporting services is installed.

On one when i go to the /reportserver url i get to a listing of report directories/reports o the server.

On the 2nd, I get the IIS error:

Directory Listing Denied

I've checked and all of the settings i can verify (in report server, Iis etc.) are identical on both.

What might cause this?

thx.

The reportserver virtual root should be configured to map all extensions to aspnet_isapi.dll. It sounds like this is not the case. If you are using Report Server 2005, you might want to recreate the virtual root using the Report Server Config Tool.

ReportServer service won't start, and gettign website error

Hi.
I';ve had an installation of reporting services running fine for months
now. This morning, I started getting the following error when trying to
access the report manager:
"Unable to communicate with report server. Please verify that the

Also, the ReportServer service won't start. I get an error back saying
that "the service did not return an error", which is nice and helpful.
Any ideas what would cause this?Go to IIS make sure no one deleted the folder called ReportServer

are. I suggest taking one by one your issues and asking there. I haven't see
the issues but that is at least partly due to the fact I am not doing much
with graphs (reading your posts it seems like a lot has to do with that).
Same could be with VS. I never see it hang. Ever.

The EventLog is being logged with the following error.
The ReportServer service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 39
time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000
milliseconds: Restart the service.
Please note 39 in the number of times it was failed.
I would like to understand the general steps involved in the resolution of
this problem.
Hope you can help !

because of this you cant call MS and that's why DF is provided and still you
dont get any solutions, you can always log a call with MS.
Coming to your problem, why dont you install your patch again or may be try
to see what you have installed recently in your NT.there may be a clash with
SSRS. If possible, you read it right "If Possible". try installing SSRS again.

I have the ReportServer service set to automatic, but on a daily basis it

Yes, I searched first :)This is the web service log file and has no effect on subscriptions. You
should look at the reportserverservice_<datetime>.log file to see why the
service is stopping.

ReportServer Service Issue

We have multiple reports that are rendered in pdf format and delivered using
the email extension. We have started experiencing a rendering error that
stops the reports form rendering/delivery and only seems to be fixed after
restarting the ReportServer service. Could this be a timing issue? We have
multiple reports kicking off at the same time that render in pdf format. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SteveThe first thing to do is to go to the Logs for Report Server, generally under
MSSQL.3 directory of your install... Look there for clues...

ReportServer Service Is Filling Up Log Files

I saw this header from back in April, but it has since been expired from
Microsoft's news server. Anywho, for some reason, my trace log file for the
ReportingServices Service is filling up at about 1 Mb per minute. I have dropped
the trace level down to 2 for now, but this does not fix the core issue. It
seems that the "Execution Log Entry Expiration" task, or whatever it is, is
running and will not stop, thus generating tons of trace log entries. Can
somebody please help with this?
Here is the warning message:
ReportingServicesService!runningjobs!22c8!6/22/2005-09:15:09:: w WARN: Previous
request for Execution Log Entry Expirationstill executing, skipping...
Here is the info message:

ReportingServicesService!dbcleanup!1a4c!6/22/2005-10:06:03:: i INFO: Expiration

ReportingServicesService!runningjobs!1a4c!6/22/2005-10:06:03:: i INFO: Execution

Also, is there any way to change the location of the trace log files? This is fixed in SP2. There's also a hotfix available if you need to stay on
SP1 for some reason. What I used to do is just have a scheduled task that
ran a vbscript to delete the older log files if the size of the log folder >
300 MB
