reportviewer error?
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Render(format, devInfo, out mimeType, out
encoding, out extension, out streamIds, out warnings);
Error:
"Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'"
below is the code I use.
MyRS.ReportViewerCredentials rvwCreds = new
MyRS.ReportViewerCredentials(userName, pass,"");
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = rvwCreds;
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new
System.Uri(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("rsUrl"));
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = "/benefit reports/Employee
Roster?sys_id=16&effdt=" +
HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString.Get("asof").ToString();
string encoding = "";
string mimeType;
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.Warning[] warnings;
string[] streamIds;
string format = "HTML4.0";
string extension = "";
string devInfo = @."<DeviceInfo>" +
"<Toolbar>True</Toolbar>" +
"<Parameters>True</Parameters>" +
"<DocMap>True</DocMap>" +
"<Zoom>100</Zoom>" +
"</DeviceInfo>";
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Render(format, devInfo, out mimeType, out
encoding, out extension, out streamIds, out warnings);using the SOAP access you can't provide the parameters in the reportpath
property.
its not an URL access.
the reportpath property must contain ONLY the report path (ie: "/benefit
reports/Employee Roster"
you have to use the parameters objects to send your parameters to the
report.

It throws the error on the SetParameters line now. If I comment out the
setting of parameters, it throws the same error on the "Render" command.
Here is my code
string userName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("rptUser").ToString();
string pass =ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("rptPassword").ToString();
MyRS.ReportViewerCredentials rvwCreds = new
MyRS.ReportViewerCredentials(userName, pass,"");
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = rvwCreds;

Roster";
string sys_id =HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString.Get("sys_id").ToString();
string asof =HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString.Get("asof").ToString();
ReportParameter param1 = new ReportParameter("sys_id", sys_id);
ReportParameter param2 = new ReportParameter("effdt", asof);
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(new ReportParameter[] {
param1, param2 });
string encoding = "";

the new reportviewer control works with RS2005 only.
the devinfo parameters are optional, because the control provides a lot of
properties like zoom, showdocmap etc...
also this control do the rendering by himself, there is no need to call the
render method.
Put the control on your asp.net page, change the parameters and options, run
the page and you'll see the result or a more detailed error.
but, maybe there is a problem at the reportserver virtual directory himself.

I have reduced the code to the following and still get the issue.
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new
System.Uri(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("rsUrl"));
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = "/benefit reports/ppl";
ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote;
ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Refresh();
Any other thoughts? What about the settings on the virtual directory. I
have tried this on two different development machines.
Thanks

ReportViewer does not render a horizontal scrollbar in IE7
scrollbar can be recovered and the bottom part of the report can be viewed if
you add the folowing to your page:
string userAgent = Request.ServerVariables.Get("HTTP_USER_AGENT");
if(userAgent.Contains("MSIE 7.0"))
vwrReports.Attributes.Add("style", "margin-bottom: 30px;");
But the horizontal scrollbar is not visible at all and part of the report
can not be viewed.There are 3 solutions:
1. 30px might not be enough, adjust it depending on your page content and
size.
2. Use vwrReports.Attributes.Add("style", "overflow:auto;");
3. Downgrade the ReportViewer control from its earliest version with ns:
Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.
Good luck.

ReportView renders reports weird...?
I'm using a ReportViewer control to render reports on my page. It does render the reports, but ever report scrolls below the iframe that it creates. It's difficult to explain, but basically, you can't scroll to the bottom of the report. That data is below the iframe's bottom border. The iframe is not mine, it's created by ResportViewer. I have a screenshot to illustratehere (http://www.appell.com/imges/srsscontrol.gif)
Here's my code (it's using a MasterPage):
<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderID="cph_MainContent" runat="server" ID="cntDefault"> Choose from the available reports: <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlReports" runat="server" OnSelectedIndexChanged="ShowReport" AutoPostBack="true"> <asp:ListItem Value="">Select a report</asp:ListItem> </asp:DropDownList> <div style="margin:8px 0px 0px 0px;clear:both;"> <rsweb:ReportViewer ID="reportViewer1" runat="server" Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="8pt" Height="600px" AsyncRendering="true" ProcessingMode="Remote" ShowToolBar="True" Width="700px"> <ServerReport ReportPath="" ReportServerUrl="http://sqlwebreports/ReportServ" DisplayName="report" Timeout="1000" /> </rsweb:ReportViewer> </div></asp:Content>
Any idea what's going wrong here? BTW, I have tried changing the InteractiveSize and it doesn't matter how short I make the report, it still scrolls below the bottom...
Thanks for the help!
Eddie
Take out the div tags. If you have it in a table tags, take those out. I had the same problem. The report was in a panel that was in a table. Took out the table tags and the report rendered fine.|||Thanks, but I tried that and I get the same exact result. This code:<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderID="cph_MainContent" runat="server" ID="cntDefault"> Choose from the available reports: <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlReports" runat="server" OnSelectedIndexChanged="ShowReport" AutoPostBack="true"> <asp:ListItem Value="">Select a report</asp:ListItem> </asp:DropDownList> <rsweb:ReportViewer ID="reportViewer1" runat="server" Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="8pt" Height="600px" AsyncRendering="true" ProcessingMode="Remote" ShowToolBar="True" Width="700px"> <ServerReport ReportPath="" ReportServerUrl="http://sqlwebreports/ReportServ" DisplayName="report" Timeout="1000" /> </rsweb:ReportViewer></asp:Content>
Renders exactly the same as the other code - the report still scrolls out of sight...
Thanks for the reply!

|||If you haven't done this yet, take out the content place holder tags and just put the viewer in a panel. Also, ssl can give the viewer trouble|||Yeah, turns out the control just can't be used with a MasterPage. I tried everything, and the only way I could get it to work was to take it out of a ContentPlaceHolder, which is required if using a MasterPage. So I just converted this page to a standard webform and it works fine. Too bad though...
Eddie
|||Also, you can check what settings are there for "Style" of the Report Viewer. You can acccess the styling of the ReportViewer as follows:
1) Design View
2) Right click on the ReportViewer and you will see the Style tab in the popup. Click that.
3) Go to Layout section. There should be a "Content" section. For Overflow, choose "Use Scrollbars if needed".
I believe this should solve the problem.
Good luck...

Reports only render sometimes
render all of the time, sometimes they run fine in a few seconds other times
they simply do not run. These are small reports with only a few hundred
records in the dataset.
They are using store procedures to generate the data and the stored
procedures always finish, so i am assuming it is at the rendering stages
where i am experiencing this intermittent problem.
Has anyone any idea where to start looking or diagnosing. I can see no
logic or pattern that is causing the reports to fail only sometimes.
I would be the most grateful man in the world if somebody could help.

Gerry ConnollyCheck the Reporting Services error logs and see if you see an "Assert" error
in there. If you do then it could be related to the AMD Cool N' Quiet
technology.
Add the following line to your boot.ini after your other boot switches and
see if that works.
switch: /usepmtimer

Reports crash with instance caching
After configuraing a report to be cached, the first request works fine (not
yet in cache) and then subequent requests take several seconds before they
blow-up with:
Reporting Services Error

An error occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get Online
Help
Index was outside the bounds of the array.
------
Microsoft Reporting Services
Thx
Paul TurleyIf a report prompts users for credentials or uses Windows Authentication, it
cannot be cached. Are you using any authentication mechanism?

ReportingService.Render(CSV)
I am calling a reporting service proxy's Render Method passing "CSV" as the format.
Dim result As Byte() = ReportingService.Render("/SomeRPT", "CSV", ...)
Return Text.Encoding.Unicode.GetString(result)
This returns a unicode byte array. This array has four leading bytes (255,254,83,0) that do not belong in the output. If I use the GetString method all of the null chars are stripped out, but this leaves three leading bytes (255,254,83) that do not exist if I call the same report from a web page, and then save as CSV. If I render this report with html, excel, or pdf as a format, the output is as expected.
Is this a bug in the SQL Report Services, Web Service?
Or am I doing something wrong?
Regards,
Ken
ReportingService.Render Method
I understand that I can use ReportingService.Render Method to render a
report into a byte array image and then stream it into a file. The sample
code included in documentation is clear.
The problem is that I have to transfer the report image byte stream from the
report server into the client and the store it into a file within another
network drive. Is it possible to ask reporting services to save the image
bytes to the destination folder directly?
Thank you,
AlanHi Alan,
I am afraid Reporting Services cannot save the image bytes to the
destination folder directly. However, you may try custom DLL to do it.

ReportingService.Render ignores the ColorDepth in TIFF Images
and then I save it to a file.
According to this page
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rsprog/htm/rsp_prog_soapapi_dev_9xip.asp
you can determine the color depth of the report image if you use the TIFF
format.
My code is like this:
rs.Render(ReportName, "IMAGE", Nothing,
"<DeviceInfo><OutputFormat>TIFF</OutputFormat><DpiX>300</DpiX><DpiY>300</DpiY><ColorDepth>8</ColorDepth></DeviceInfo>", _
tmpParams, Nothing, Nothing, Nothing, Nothing, Nothing,
Nothing, Nothing)
My tif image is always 24 bit, no matter what I put in ColorDepth (higher or
lower).
Do you know how to fix it, or do you know a quick way to change the pixel
format of a file?
ThanksAmiram,
I don't have a KB article or anything, but MSFT staff have reported that
this is a known bug. Unfortunately, it did not get fixed in SP2, and last I
heard it did not make the cut for RS 2005 either.
I wrote code to loop over the pixels and convert the color depth to
monochrome, but it was too slow. It took about 3 seconds for a 600 x 800
TIFF, which was too long to do synchronously while the user waited. If you
want a color depth that does not require a palette, you can convert it very
quickly in code. However, I have failed to find any way to convert to
monochrome (with palette) without looping over the pixels. Because our
requirements allowed it, we ended up saving the 24 bpp TIFF files to disk and
using a utility to batch convert them once every few minutes.

I don't care to wait three seconds, because all process is in another
thread. Batch is too difficult for me, since I need to install it in each
client machine. Can you show some code for looping over the pixels? My tiff
file usually contains some frames.
Thanks

Here's a snippet that does all the heavy lifting of switching frames,
looping over pixels, and saving the image. Note that, in order to try to
speed this up as much as possile, this uses unsafe code. If you prefer safe
code to performance, you can get rid of the bit twiddling and let .NET set
each bit.
If you have more questions, you can email me. Just take out the "nospam"
parts of my email address.

ReportingService.Render
In the examples of the ReportingService API i found the render method that
renders a report to a file.
But what ever i try i cant get it to work becuase the reportPath parameter
is always incorrect.
When browsing for the report using my IE browser this is the URL:
http://localhost/ReportServer?%2ftester1%2fReport1&rs:Command=Render
I come there after typing in:
http://localhost/ReportServer
Then clicking on tester1
Then clicking on report1
Now what ever i try to put in the reportPath it does not work. Can someone
give me any pointers?
Dim rs As New ReportingService.ReportingService
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
' Render arguments
Dim result As Byte() = Nothing
Dim reportPath As String = "/ReportServer/tester1/report1"
Dim format As String = "MHTML"
Dim historyID As String = Nothing
Dim devInfo As String = "<DeviceInfo><Toolbar>False</Toolbar></DeviceInfo>"
' Prepare report parameter.
Dim parameters() As ParameterValue = Nothing
Dim credentials As DataSourceCredentials() = Nothing
Dim showHideToggle As String = Nothing
Dim encoding As String
Dim mimeType As String
Dim warnings As Warning() = Nothing
Dim reportHistoryParameters As ParameterValue() = Nothing
Dim streamIDs As String() = Nothing
Dim sh As New SessionHeader
rs.SessionHeaderValue = sh
Try
result = rs.Render(reportPath, format, historyID, devInfo,
parameters, credentials, showHideToggle, encoding, mimeType,
reportHistoryParameters, warnings, streamIDs)
sh.SessionId = rs.SessionHeaderValue.SessionId
Catch e As SoapException
End Try
Try
Dim stream As FileStream = File.Create("report.pdf",
result.Length)
stream.Write(result, 0, result.Length)
stream.Close()
Catch e As Exception
End Try/tester1/report1 as path solved that problem.
But now i have other problems with the user compname\ASP.NET not having
sufficient rights.
Where can i find documentation on how to setup the security so that i can
use the render method?
