ReportViewer in SSRS2000
select few ?
ThanksOn the SQL Reporting Server, assuming a default install, in the
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\ReportServer directory, open the RSReportServer.config file.
In here there is a section called <RENDER> </RENDER> which lists all
the different export types available.
This will affect all reports on the ReportServer, but you should be
able to do something with this - comment out the entire line, or add a
visible=false; tag

ReportViewer exporting
Hi,
When you export a report in localmode using the ReportViewer export function, a new window will pop up with the download. Is there a way to eliminate that new browser window from coming up? Also, I'm having a little trouble writing some custom code to export the report instead of using the export toolbar. I found the following in a previous post...
1Dim bufferAs Byte(), fAs String, fsAs System.IO.FileStream2 f = System.IO.Path.GetTempFileName()3 System.IO.Path.ChangeExtension(f,"xls")4' there is probably a better way to set up the rendered PDF5 ' for redirecting to the Response output, but this one works.67 ' here is the binding bit. Revise to suit your dynamic situation.8 ' if you aren't really dynamically binding data against one9 ' loaded report, but rather changing10 ' reports to suit the user's needs, that will work too.11Dim ReportDataSourceX =New ReportDataSource()12With Me.ReportViewer1.LocalReport13 buffer = .Render("EXCEL", _14Nothing,Nothing,Nothing,Nothing,Nothing,Nothing)15End With1617 fs =New System.IO.FileStream(f, System.IO.FileMode.Create)18 fs.Write(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)19 fs.Close()20 fs.Dispose()2122 Response.ContentType ="Application/vnd.ms-excel"23 Response.WriteFile(f)24 Response.End()25 System.IO.File.Delete(f)When I run this and export, the excel file comes up very quarky with all sorts of symbols and such and does not render correctly, e,g,. the rdlc isn't even loaded and it seems like it is taking the whole page into excel from what I can read from the file.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Heyden,
You can do this by usingReportViewer.ExportContentDispositionproperty. UseAlwayInline.
For reference -
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.reporting.webforms.reportviewer.exportcontentdisposition(VS.80).aspx
|||
and for custom export functionality check this post -
https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=139828&SiteID=1
|||Many thank for the AlwaysInline. Solved my problem. I was either going to use custom exporting or try to find a way to eliminate that page. Thanks a bunch again!
|||I have the same problem. A new window pops-up when trying to download the report in excel through the export toolbar. I don't want to open the report inline. I need a separate window to open the report but I don't want the pop-up window to be present while downloading the report. Is there any way to eliminate the blank window or any way to close it once the download is done.
Thanks in advance !

ReportViewer Export PDF (Huge size) Workaround
If you have a chart or image in your reportviewer and you want to export file in PDF format, you will have an unusable big size pdf file.
Here is a work around fromsnapApps:(1/19/2007)
"snapApps createda solution for this problem. It involves disabling the export featurefrom the reportViewer toolbar and rendering the PDF through a custombutton. That's the easy part. Then you just use our PDFCompress libraryto compress the image streams contained within the PDF. You candownload PDFCompress athttp://www.snapapps.com/Components.aspx."
Hope this helps someone.
Hi,
I found a possible solution for this:
Download Orcas 2 Beta (I used the Virtual PC image, but the regular installation should work)
Look for:
Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common.dll
Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll
Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel.dll
Note that the ProcessingObjectModel is in the global assembly cache. The way I was able to copy it was by going to the command line and doing adir Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel.dll /sin the root of the c drive. Then I found the location of the file, changed directory and copied the file to a previously created directory.
Make sure that the files that you pick are version 9.0.0.0!
Copy all those files and add the references in your VS2005 project. It seems that the ReportViewer version 9.0.0.0 which is in Orca is compatible with .NET 2.0.
Next, replace all references to 8.0.0.0 in any page that uses the report viewer with 9.0.0.0. Also, the web.config file has a reference to report viewer, make sure you substitute 8.0.0.0 for 9.0.0.0.
I have tested this method and it works. Make sure that the bin directory of your deployed application has the three files above.
ReportViewer Export Mode--Local Report
Is there a way to turn off PDF export for the ReportViewer control, while keeping the option to export to Excel?
Please let me know.
Thanks.
Unfortunately there is not. You can, however, turn off the entire export option and provide your own button to perform the Excel export, calling ReportViewer.LocalReport.Render() to get the data.Wednesday, March 28, 2012
ReportViewer Control - Toolbar - Export - Set other default ?
I would like to change the default setting of the export listbox in the toolbar of the reportviewer (webforms) control.
Now the default is : 'Select a format' and I would like to change it to Excel since in 90% of the cases my users export the reports to excel.
thanks in advance
1) To change order of export to options in SRS we need to change ReportServer.config file. Change the order and they will get reflected in the UI.

I have a similar problem but could not solve it yet (as a matter of fact, did not go deep into it). Here is a post that I posted in MSDN forums, which has some possible solutions. It might solve your problem. If it does, please let me know what you did to solve it.

ReportViewer and pdf export
Hello,
I created a report using the ReportViewer control in client mode. The report is designed for the landscape orientation. In the rdlc file, the width is set to 11in and the height is set to 8.5in . When I export the file using the pdf format, it always uses the portrait orientation and thus cuts the main report table. I tried different page sizes, I can't figure out how to make the report viewer create a pdf file that uses the landscape orientation. Please help.
Thanks and regards,
Phil
Its based on the printer's default settings. Change those and it should work.
Eric
|||Do you mean that the client user should set the default orientation of his default printer to Landscape or are you talking about server settings?
This is unrelated but my post was moved to SQL Server Reporting Services. I use VS 2005 on an Oracle database via ODBC. I don't know whether all ReportViewer related posts are moved here, but this is confusing for people who don't use SQL Server, like me.
Thanks and regards,
Phil
|||Not sure, try server first then client.
Eric
|||Changing the properties of the local printer has no effect (actually, you don't even need a local printer to export the report). I can't change the server printer settings and anyway some of my reports use the portrait orientation that I also need. There must be a way to make the report viewer export a pdf file with either the landscape or portrait format based on report settings...
Thanks and regards,
Phil
|||Are you sure thatall the different size settings are set to width: 11in, height: 8.5in...?
In the "REPORT", there is both an "Interactive Size" and a "Page Size"... and then in the "BODY" there is also a "Size" setting. You are sure that you set the correct one?
Good luck!
|||Ouch, I feel stupid now... I was only setting the BODY size, I never noticed that there is also a REPORT size, and that both sizes are independant. Thank you very much for your help, it is working now.
|||Hi,
Can you specify what you did to overcome this problem. I am facing the same problem.
And for which is there a "Report" property. For a RDLC file or a reportviewer control. Because I dont find that for both of them.
To be more specific I have set all the four (Header , footer, body and also the report to width : 8.5 and height : 11 inch).
But Still i see 2 pages for PDF for one page.....
|||Hello,
I opened the rdlc file in VS. In the menu bar, I went to Report >> Report Properties. I selected the second tab named Layout and I set the Page width and Page height properties to 11.69in and 8.27in (A4 landscape, 11in and 8.5in for US letter size).
HTH
Philippe
|||Thanks Philippe. That was great and Thanks for the sooner reply.
|||Click Report > Report Properties
Click the layout tab
Change the page width to 11
change the page height to 8.5
Thanks.........
I did find the same in one of the sites and did.
Finally it did workout

ReportView control taking long time to Export report
application on a web server to export a Reporting Services report in PDF
format takes 5-10 minutes (note same problem no matter what export format
used). The control was incorporated into the web application via Visual
Studio. But when you export the same report using the web interface provided
on the Reporting Services machine it runs in seconds. The web services
machine of course is using the same control but it is on reporting services
web machine, where as the slow application uses the control provided by
Visual Studio which resides on the web box where the application lives. So
why is the ReportViewer control on the application IIS box, so much slower
than the ReportViewer on the Reporting Services IIS box for the same report?

If you are looking for SQL Server examples or a free SQL Server DBA
Dashboard tool check out my Website at http://www.sqlserverexamples.comJust to be clear. Are you saying when you use the Report Manager it takes
seconds? And when you use the report viewer web control it takes minutes?
Because below you are saying this: "The web services machine of course is
using the same control but it is on reporting services" This confuses me.
Is it your app on the machine or Report Manager. I don't think Report
Manager is using the control.
Now as far as the 5-10 minutes, are you using the control in local mode or
server mode?

Reports using a lot of data errors exporting
We have a customer that has a large report that they want to export to Excel. If I try to export the entire report, it just hangs. If I run the report in 2 batches, it exports fine.
Can you tell me if there is a patch for SSRS that is going to address this or if there is a work around that I can put in my report to handle it?
The customer is quite upset at the work around so I'd love to find a solution soon.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Sherry
How much data are you talking about?
There are memory limitations in RS 2005.
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2025466&SiteID=1
|||The report seems to return only 6,393 rows of data. Of course, we could display more rows on the report due to grouping.

Reports and GetDate
using views.
With my design it works great until it is the first of the month. As the
report always
checks from yesterday to the first of the current month. One view is below.
The date statement checks between the first of month and current date -1
Can anyone help with with this?
Mike
CREATE VIEW dbo.GUTUR
AS
SELECT COUNT(*) AS GUTUR
FROM dbo.Chev
WHERE ([Deal Date] BETWEEN DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, GETDATE()), 0)
AND GETDATE() - 1) AND ([N/U] = 'U') AND (([Sales Type] = 'R') or ([Sales
Type] = '3'))
Hi Mike,
If I have understood right, when the current date is the first of month, the
WHERE clause doesn't apply in your case.
([Deal Date] BETWEEN DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, GETDATE()), 0)
AND GETDATE() - 1)
For Ex:
Based on the above Where clause mentioned by you, when current date is Jan
1st, it becomes,
[Deal Date] BETWEEN 2005-01-01 00:00:00.000 AND 2004-12-31 00:00:00.000
because of which it doesn't return any rows.
BTW, when current date is Jan 1st, you should not have any data, from your
given sql statement. If it is otherwise, please let me know.
Thanks
GYK
|||You can try this :
CREATE VIEW dbo.GUTUR
AS
SELECT COUNT(*) AS GUTUR
FROM dbo.Chev
WHERE ([Deal Date] BETWEEN
convert(datetime, convert(varchar(11), getdate(), 101)) - datepart(dd,
getdate()) + 1 AND convert(datetime, convert(varchar(11), getdate() - 1,
101))
AND ([N/U] = 'U') AND (([Sales Type] = 'R') or ([Sales Type] = '3'))
You will also have to remove the time portion from the date to get the
correct result.

Hi Mike,
I understand what yoou write, but I don't see what you want. What exactly
would you expect? You say you want output from the first day of the
current month until yesterday. If you run this report on Jan 1st, this
would mean you want output from Jan 1 2005 until Dec 31 2004, producing an
empty report, or course.
I believe that your view will do just that: produce an empty report on the
first of any month, produce a report about only the first day of the month
when run on the second day, etc.
Were you expecting something else on the first day of the month? If so,
what output did you want to get?

M. PeyerThis problem occurred for me when I had a value expression in a text
box on the group header/footer. I am running SP1. Before SP1 was loaded
the report would export to excel without the Stack Empty but the
expression would not evaluate. With SP1 I get the Stack Empty error.
Once I removed the expressions the stack empty error went away.

ReportRenderingException for Subscription PDF
my reports in IE, and export them as PDF's. But when I put them on a shared
schedule, the PDF's throw a ReportRenderingException. The Excel reports are
running fine.
I need to run several hundred reports tomorrow, so any help would be
appreciated.
I can't find where this might be in the log files, searching for the report
name or the
string ReportRenderingException yields nothing.Hello,
From the post, it seems that you can view the report, and manually export
it to a pdf file successfully; however, when exporting the report via
Subscription as pdf file, you received the ReportRenderingException error.
You can export the report via Subscription as Excel reports successfully.

If you'd like to work with newsgroup, please help me collect some
information to troubleshoot the issue or perform troubleshooting steps:
1. Please check if the issue is report related. If possible, test a simple
report to check the issue.
For example, if the issue occurs on a matrix report which has a several
matrix columns, check other report which isn't matrix report.
2. Please check if the issue is account related.
If possible, log on as a domain\administrative user account to test the
issue.
3. Please check if the issue is machine related.
4. Use FileMon and RegMon to check if there is any registry permission
issue or file permission issue.
You can download them from the following web site:
FileMon:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/filemon.shtml
RegMon:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml
Check the FileMon log file and RegMon log file to see if there is any
"Access Denied" error. If so, grant full control on the related registry
key or files.
5. Check the reporting services log files. By default, the log files are
located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\LogFiles folder.
6. Post here the exact error message.
I hope the information is helpful.

I resolved this particular problem with at "shot in the dark", makeing sure
that "Do not timeout report execution" was checked on Site Settings. This got
most of my reports to run properly.
I'm still getting occasional "Error: Subreport could not be shown" for
reports that I can run manually, and which can be run with the same
parameters on the same schedule! Reports running on that schedule after that
report run fine. Sometimes the error shows with the first subreport,
sometimes with only some (but once it shows up, all the subreports in that
report fail until the last one which has no external data connection.)
Perhaps there's another setting, not in the web-gui that I can set?
Thanks,
Avery.

>|||Hello,
Based on my research, similar issue was resolved by recreating main report
or Subreport which has problems.
I suggest that you perform the following steps to narrow down the issue:
1. Check if the Subreport is able to render by itself as a stand-alone
report.
2. Check if the Main report is able to render by itself as a stand-alone
report.
3. Create a test report with a test subreport. Make sure it works fine.
4. Add the failing subreport to the test project and the test main report.
If it works fine, the original main report may have problems. If so,
recreate the original main report and add the subreport to it to test.
Also, you can configure the Report Server for Tracing. You may need to set
the Tracing Levels to 4 (Verbose mode). Then reproduce the issue. After
that, check the Reporting Services Trace Logs to find the cause.
For more information to configure a Report Server for Tracing, please
access the following web site:
Configuring a Report Server for Tracing
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rsadmin/htm
/arp_configserver_v1_273t.asp
If the issue still exists, please post here the trace logs for research.
I hope the information is helpful.

Reporting Services Word export
on "SQL Server Chat: Reporting Services Is Here" which was at January 28, 2004 this question got asked:
Host: Lukasz (Microsoft)
Q: How far are you from having export to Excel 97/2000 and Word working? I heard there are plans.
A: We are investigating doing these rendering extensions. We do not have a fixed timeframe for this work.
This is 2.5 years ago.
In this thread:http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=13161&SiteID=1
the same question got asked again.
Are there any advances to this topic?
Thanks, Tobias.
No.

|||This probably doesn't answer your question about Word, but we added binary BIFF8 Excel output (Excel 97/2000/XP/2003) in Reporting Services 2000 SP1.
We are still considering a Word rendering extension. You might want to check out SoftArtisans OfficeWriter (http://officewriter.softartisans.com). OfficeWriter offers a report designer in Word and Excel and renders reports created by OfficeWriter to native Word and Excel binary formats.
|||Meanwhile we use SQL RS 2005. I've read something about a "post-SQL 2005 release" in the other thread. Are there any timed milestones?
We have just changed our reporting from CrystalReports to ReportingServices. There is no time to do a third implementatin on OfficeWriter.

Aspose.Words for Reporting Services is a rendering extension that allows to export reports to DOC, RTF and WordML.
